LIKES: Her job, even if nobody (including her husband) really understands what she does; sports (college, pro, and especially whatever her own kids are playing); divas like Beyonce, or Whitney if she’s feeling old school; trying new hobbies, vacations and foods, sometimes all at once; action heroes; “General Hospital,” but only when nobody’s looking.

 

DISLIKES: Malls, which she’s convinced are the reason God invented online shopping; “playdates”; mothers who think THEIR son is a better athlete than HER son; trying to figure out the difference between “Star Trek” and “Star Wars”; cooking (baking excluded); arty movies where people spend long, portent-laden moments staring out windows; board games. (Especially board games.)

 

FAVORITE FAMILY ACTIVITY: Something completely different that they’ve never tried before, especially when they wind having fun despite all the time spent complaining about it beforehand. (This means you, C.J.)

LEAST FAVORITE FAMILY ACTIVITY: Having to become a screaming maniac before anyone will clean up after themselves. (This means you, C.J.)

PARENTING CHALLENGES: Guilt over enjoying going to work; tendency to cause scenes on the sidelines at youth sports events; occasionally becoming a screaming maniac. (Although who could blame her?)

PARENTING JOYS: The patented nod-and-smile from Freddy after he makes a great play; the fact that Sara still finds her a suitable companion for a spa day despite her approaching teenager-hood.
